Total Immersion (TI) has achieved an enthusiastic global following for a uniquely satisfying approach to swimming that we call "Fishlike." We’ve been teaching it to improvement-minded adults for 15 years, through private and group classes as well as with self-help tools – books, videos and DVD’s. The Total Immersion method is the first to show humans how to swim much like fish – concentrating on balance, “slippery” positions and fluent propelling movements. More succinctly it’s about learning to work with the water, rather than battling your way through it. Those who master it feel transformed by the experience of becoming one with the water and the mind-body connection created by focusing on the quality, fluency and subtlety of each movement. Traditional swimming focuses mainly on laps and more laps, on going harder and longer, pushing yourself to build endurance. Total Immersion creates endurance effortlessly by eliminating the energy wasted in making waves and creating turbulence.

The method of instruction will speed up the learning curve by concentrating on the essential skills of fishlike swimming: posture, alignment, balance, breathing, core rotation, kick mechanics and whole body propelling movement patterns.  These are all skills we see with high level swimmers and are skills that don’t require experience, fitness, youth, or power - they are skills that ANYONE can learn at any age.  I can teach you how to tap into core power for safe and fast swimming.

The TI stroke is learnt by working through several drills, each one imprinting a different element of the whole stroke. This learning process makes it easy for the swimmer as information is assimilated in manageable segments thus avoiding sensory overload. At Total Immersion we have a very clear idea of the movement pathways necessary for efficient, fast swimming, so learners can be confident that the stoke they acquire cannot be bettered, only improved.

I'm happy to take swimmers of all abilities for one-to-one or two-to-one lessons. I teach in various pools in and around Brighton. I also run open-water swim sessions in lakes, rivers and the sea for those who are interested in open water swimming or plan to race in triathlons and aquathlons. These seasons will cover pre-race reconnaissance, warm-ups, the start, navigating, drafting and finishing. I can impart a wealth of knowledge to the budding triathlete, helping to make their open-water experience one to remember for all the good reasons.

I charge between £40 and £60 per one hour session depending on where the lesson is held. Please get in touch if you have any questions or wish to book a session - call 07815813503 or email me via the contact page.
